Vazelon & Kustul Monasteries Faith Tour

Welcome to our faith tour discovering Trabzon's historic monasteries. We begin with Vazelon Monastery located in Macka Valley. Built on a rocky hill at 270 meters altitude, this 6th-century structure was one of the important religious centers of the Byzantine period. Touring the monastery ruins, we examine the historic walls, chapel traces, and sacred spring site. Watching the magnificent view of the valley, we learn about the region's religious and cultural significance.

With our transition to Kustul Monastery, we discover another historic structure in the depths of Altindere Valley. This monastery from the 14th century was built inside a natural cave. Examining the frescoes and architectural details inside the monastery, we learn about Orthodox Christianity history. Both monasteries reflect the region's rich cultural heritage. Taking a nature hike among historic structures, we also discover the valley's natural beauties.
